FIELD APPLICATIONS ENGINEER - JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Global Applications Engineering Leader, the applications engineer will 1) provide customer/sales technical support on new and/or existing applications; 2) develop / maintain technical product information; and 3) assist product management and marketing with technical evaluation of the product portfolio, product roadmaps, and the identification of new technologies and application areas.
Customer/Sales Technical Support
1. Provide customer and sales technical support on new or existing applications
2. Assist in overseeing product modifications and provide input to the NPI process and projects
3. Articulate customer requirements to engineering and act as liaison between engineering and customers as necessary and as directed by the product management team
4. Share information and success stories with global colleagues to duplicate regional successes on a global basis
Maintain Technical Product Information
1. Assisting Product Management with developing training material, understanding and utilizing ERP systems for development of cost reduction proposals, value engineering, and addressing product related technical calls from field sales
2. Web tool development and maintenance
3. Cross reference tool development and maintenance
Provide Technical Support to Product Marketing
1. Through field visits and conversations with customers, the incumbent must strive to understand competitive positions at the tactical level such as competitive pricing and position strategies
2. Assist in portfolio rationalization & development of product roadmaps
3. Competitive analysis (technical comparisons and product teardown’s)
4. Identification of new technologies for use in new and existing applications
Measures of Success:
1. Product Group Performance (Revenue and Op Income)
2. Product Group Growth (NBO generation and closure)
3. Sales Support
4. Effectiveness of new product launches
5. NBO generation and conversion as measured by level of activity and the percentage of customer interactions (visits / inquiries) that result in new business awards
Basic Requirements:
1. Five years engineering experience
2. BS Engineering Field
3. Regional travel (30 to 50%)
4. Demonstrated ability to learn and work with different component technologies
5. Ability to assess suitability of new technologies (whether internally developed or externally acquired) to meet product roadmap and customer requirements
6. Proven experience working in a global setting across multiple cultures
7. Excellent communication skills
8. Team building and problem solving skills
9. High energy individual that can drive the business to exceed profitability and growth goals.
